“Asociatia Casa Calea” is a project with a house that started in 1998, when some Dutch Christians were captured by the need of the poor, the homeless, the addicted people, and especially the children – living on the street of Bucuresti in very bad circumstances. The work on the streets started as a children in need mission in 1995.
Burning with a passion for God, and a love for the people, a small group of people started to help on the street, providing shelter, giving food and with a message of love and hope of a God who cares for people.
The current building – Strada Vespasian nr 55 – of “Asociatia Casa Calea” was obtained in September 2001 by some substantial sponsors, who supported this vision in Bucuresti. The project is depending fully on the generosity of it’s sponsors.
From 2009 until 2019 the mission was led by Lucas († 2018) and Lisa Rahanar.
In the end of 2019 there was a shift in the workers and a partner organisation stepped in to do a lot of the practical work in București.
As of March 2020 Vluchtheuvel church in Arnhem – represented by pastor and manager Roel van Kooy – took over the lead in the mission work of “Asociatia Casa Calea” as Lisa returned to the Netherlands. In the difficult periode of 2020/ 2021 the work continued, sometimes only by means of handing out meals at the front door.

In November and December 2021 all of the Ministry work was closed, as there was necessary renovation work in the house. We also stopped the working with the partner organisation, so we had to recruit A NEW NETWORK OF VOLUNTEERS from scratch.
The current missionary work did reopen on January 4th 2022- all thanks and honour to God. And all programs restarted with a fresh team of volunteers.
In March 2025 the staff team was extended when Doret van der Straten joined the ministry.
